In these five months, I had the opportunity to collaborate with a project group on an in-depth research study focused on reducing aluminum scrap, including both production waste and material losses. Our goal was to explore innovative and practical solutions that could improve efficiency and sustainability within the manufacturing process.
Throughout the research phase, we analyzed various potential approaches, carefully evaluating their feasibility and impact. After thorough consideration, we identified the most effective solution: the use of specialized filler blocks for the most commonly used aluminum profiles. By implementing these filler blocks, we were able to significantly reduce bending during the manufacturing process, which in turn minimized the amount of excess material that needed to be cut away.
This simple yet effective adjustment not only led to a notable decrease in material waste but also contributed to a more streamlined and cost-effective production process. The project provided valuable insights into process optimization, and it was a rewarding experience to work on a solution that combined practical engineering with sustainable practices.
During this period I also made a small python program to input measurements into that automatically got added into an Excel document. This way, the measurements all got the same input and this increased reliability of the researched data.
